In our previous blog, Blog No. 36, we discussed the sixth action item for the Panel of Experts from Industry & Academia (listed in our Blog No. 29, dated as 29th October 2014) – to initiate and oversee Technical Developments for meeting “below-the-horizon” requirements.
Let’s think together on the seventh action item today – to create an awareness that for Engineering Business “Engineering” is most important and business growth would require an atmosphere of learning, sharing, and exploration.
Does the above appear as a trivial proposition?
Let’s review the current Engineering Business Scenario. Here are our few key observations:
(i) The major support activities are: (i) Project support (ii) Training support (iii) Resource support.
(ii) The technical expertise development is generally driven by available requirements, resulting in a general absence of long-term technical expertise development plans.
(iii) Professional careers of resources are at the mercy of available requirements.
The final outcome is a framework which rests more on business prospects available rather than an inherent strength to “develop expertise and demand requirements”…not in line with the goal that we have set for ourselves!
…and hence, our proposition – Let Engineering happen in the way that it should happen, i.e. in the spirit of learning, sharing, and exploration. In the process, the support organizations will develop the muscles to support more and more…
There are a few support organizations today which understand the wisdom of this proposition, and are already on a right path. The need is to reinforce it further for them, and convey the message “loud and clear” to those who are yet to realize the wisdom of this proposition.
Please share your thoughts – We’ll wait for them as usual…
